Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 22, 2026
TheWeatherIn, Ltd. Colorado ("we," "our," or "the Site") is committed to being transparent about how we handle your information. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used when you visit theweatherincolorado.com.
We operate as a small, independent weather media publisher. We do not sell your personal information and do not use it for advertising.
1. Information We Collect
When you subscribe to our newsletter (free)
- Your email address
- Your name (optional, if provided)
When you become a paid member (Weather Insider)
- Your email address and name
- Payment information — collected and processed directly by Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe's privacy policy applies to payment data: stripe.com/privacy.
When you use the local forecast widget
Our homepage includes an optional local weather widget. If you grant permission, your browser shares your approximate location (latitude and longitude) directly with the National Weather Service API to retrieve a forecast. This location data is sent from your browser to the NWS — it is not transmitted to or stored by us. You can deny this permission and the widget will prompt you to enter a ZIP code instead.
Automatically collected data
Like most websites, our platform (Ghost) may log basic technical data, including your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. This is used solely to keep the site functioning and to understand general traffic patterns. It is not linked to your identity.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Email address — to deliver the newsletter and, for paid members, account-related communications (receipts, renewal notices, member-only content).
- Name — to personalize emails when provided.
- Technical/log data — to monitor site performance and fix errors.
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, target you with third-party ads, or share it with data brokers.
3. Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of trusted third parties to operate this site. Each handles data according to their own privacy policies:
| Service | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Ghost (Ghost Foundation) | Website hosting, membership management, newsletter delivery infrastructure | Email, name, member status |
| Stripe | Payment processing for paid memberships | Payment card data (never stored by us) |
| Mailgun (Sinch) | Email delivery for newsletters and transactional messages | Email address, delivery metadata |
| National Weather Service (NOAA) | Local forecast data for the homepage widget | Your approximate location (browser-to-NWS only; not stored by us) |
4. Cookies
Our site uses cookies for the following purposes:
- Session cookies — to keep you logged in as a member during a browsing session.
- Preference cookies — Ghost may store basic site preferences.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; doing so may prevent member login from functioning correctly.
5. Email Communications
Every newsletter and member email includes an unsubscribe link. Clicking it immediately removes you from future mailings. Free subscribers are removed from the mailing list entirely. Paid members retain account access but will no longer receive email until re-enabled in account settings.
We do not send promotional emails on behalf of third parties.
6. Data Retention
- Newsletter subscribers — your email is retained until you unsubscribe. After unsubscribing, it may be held in a suppression list to ensure you are not re-added accidentally.
- Paid members — account information is retained for as long as your membership is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to satisfy billing and legal record-keeping requirements.
- Log data — typically retained for 30–90 days for troubleshooting purposes.
7. Your Rights and Choices
You may request at any time:
- Access to the personal information we hold about you
- Correction of inaccurate information
- Deletion of your account and associated data
- A copy of your data in a portable format
To make any of these requests, email us at hello@theweatherincolorado.com. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights under GDPR/UK GDPR. If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We honor these rights regardless of your location.
8. Children's Privacy
This site is not directed to children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. If we make material changes, we will note the updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
